PAWSitive Contrast Radiology

Chris MacKay, DVM MS DACVR

Dr. MacKay grew up in eastern Canada and earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (DVM) from The Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island. After veterinary school, Dr. MacKay completed a challenging and rewarding small animal internship program in Philadelphia at the University of Pennsylvania.

After the Internship, he relocated to Portland, Oregon, to pursue a fledgling passion for windsurfing. Realizing that loans had to be paid, windsurfing was expensive, and work was unfortunately not optional, Dr. MacKay began a career in emergency medicine at Dove Lewis Emergency Animal Hospital.

His Journey

In 2009, after not earning a dime from the windsurfing thing and burning out of emergency medicine, he applied for residencies in diagnostic imaging. He was fortunate that the group of radiologists at Washington State thought he'd be a good fit for their program (thanks Dr's. Mattoon, Roberts, and Tucker!). Dr. MacKay completed residency in 2012 and was awarded Diplomate status to The College of Veterinary Radiology later that year.

After trading water and wind for mountains, and well, still lots of wind, Dr. MacKay moved to Colorado for a brief stint as an assistant professor of radiology at Colorado State University. Loving the Colorado lifestyle, he stuck around, working a full-time teleradiology position with Idexx, while unexpectedly and simultaneously growing a now thriving mobile ultrasound practice.
